Kong Tower Interlude II: Sketches!

Kong Tower Interlude II: Sketches! published on No Comments on Kong Tower Interlude II: Sketches!

So…Halloween was nice! It did however leave me without time to draw a full comic, so here’s some pages out of my sketchbook, showing some studies of Monkey man, a bunch of thumbnails, (with a comic superimposed due to being on the other side of that page) my early studies of Aya, and my first draft of Necroma from last week’s comic (you may notice her gauntlet is on the other hand). So yeah, that’s all I can give you this week. I’ll have jokes next time, I promise!

Kong Tower #33: Super Spooky

Kong Tower #33: Super Spooky published on No Comments on Kong Tower #33: Super Spooky

Some spooky heroes just in time for Halloween! Yes, Necroma, despite the her name and appearance is a good guy. Her powers will be explained over the next few weeks. And Arachne we pretty much know already.

Gonna be honest, I’ve been waiting to draw someone leaning over a gargoyle the entire time I’ve been writing this comic.

Vote for Kong Tower, and the Spookiness will continue. And seriously, write to me in the comments, I want to get a read of people’s opinions on this stuff. That way I can better cater to your whims. Also I get to use the work whims more, and that’s just delightful.

Kong Tower #32: Do Me a Favor: Tell the Audience About Me

My first days late comic. I guess it’s something every webcomic artist has to go through, especially early on. Oh well.

It took me literally until the very last stages of making this to realize his helmet is drawn wrong in the last Panel. Oops.

I had some trouble coming up with a title for this one and eventually settled on a bastardized version of one of the title character’s first lines from the ’89 Batman movie: “I want you to do me a favor: I want you to tell all your friends about me.” It’s a stretch, I know.

I know people with OCD don’t usually have the compulsion of Narrating, but honestly in my limited knowledge of mental disorders I couldn’t think of one that fit better. Tell me in the comments if there’s something better I could use. If this part of the comic offends you, I would like to direct you to this comic of a few months ago to demonstrate how little I probably care.

Vote for Kong Tower or Emmerson will get very anxious.

Kong Tower #31: The Dramatic Reveal!

Kong Tower #31: The Dramatic Reveal! published on No Comments on Kong Tower #31: The Dramatic Reveal!

This one’s out late unfortunately. I was hoping to get further into this before I started slipping.

But anyway, Here you go! Monkey Man! The secret identity of that guy on the right in the first two comics who was named as Sunny Wu, owner of Kong Tower (Classical Chinese Literature fans will get that joke) only twenty four comics later. Yes, he wears Utility Suspenders, and his chin is entirely shielded while his neck and jawline is exposed. And yes, his chest insignia (and thematic throwing star-boomerang things) are meant to look like Monkeys in a Barrel. You remember those? They were fun in a the-internet-isn’t-practical-yet kinda way.

Of course, if you Voted for Kong Tower you’d have known who he was weeks ago, and you’d especially have known if you’d voted every single day like you totally can and isn’t that awesome! Even now, by doing so, you can see a huge, full-color image of Monkey Man in all his Simian Glory!

Just one more week until you can find out the mysterious secret identity of mogul Sunny Wu! (unless I fall behind schedule. Which is distinctly possible.) If you just can’t wait that long, darn it, just Vote for Kong Tower on Top Web Comics to see a huge, fully-colored image of the superhero in question in all his glory!

Kong Tower #29: Revanchists: Age of Fashion

Kong Tower #29: Revanchists: Age of Fashion published on No Comments on Kong Tower #29: Revanchists: Age of Fashion

Since the Age of Ultron DVD comes out today, I thought I’d share with you how amusing I found this aspect of the scene where [SPOILERS] The Vision is created. Actually there was a lot of humor to that aspect of the movie. First there was the whole batshit crazy Thor-thrashing-shirtless-in-a-puddle plotline that was there just so his stupid name would make sense (and also, obviously, to show Thor thrashing shirtless in a puddle). Then there was the fact that Ultron, who, having spent the entire film building himself increasingly large, threatening, and ostentatious metal bodies, upon deciding to make himself a pseudo-organic form, thinks “You know what, let’s go with an average-height purple ectomorph.”

And, so you don’t have to look it up, Revanchist is basically a synonym for Avenger, except with a focus on captured territory or something. A lot of the names in this comic will be made up just using existing titles and a thesaurus.

In case you couldn’t guess (due likely to the lack of much evidence), Sunny Wu is the guy sitting on the right in the first two comics.

What is this mysterious figure’s persona? It will be revealed over the course of the next few weeks, but you can find out right now by Voting for Kong Tower on Top Web Comics. It’s free, and you can do it every day!
